Helensburgh Creek Bushcare

Located at 78 Parkes Street, Helensburgh. We work here on two Thursday mornings each month.

This was out first Landcare site back in 1993. At the time the creek sides were full of blackberry (Rubus fruticosus), crofton weed (Ageratina adenophora) and lantana (Lantana camara). There were a lot of other weeds and the creek sides were not accessible.

We planted many trees and shrubs over the years, some are now 30 years old. Wollongong Council was eventually appointed Crown Land Managers for the site and we then joined Wollongong Bushcare as a Bushcare Group.

These days we battle arum lilies (Zantedeschia aethopica) and Madeira vine (Anredera cordifolia), propagules of which are washed down from further up the creek.
